Autumn in London sorted

The hottest part of the year may have been lost to the perils of the “Great” British summer time and the rain. We have the hottest things for your autumn in London lined up, tried and tested and ready to put your free time back on track!

Escape rooms

We had never realised how much we loved an escape room until we had the pleasure of doing two gifted escape rooms this summer.

Dead mans hand

Dead Mans Hand London Summer 2019

The first, from the absolute gems that are A Door In A Wall. This experience, much like their others, is less escape room and more high intensity problem solving. This one was all around East London and it was brilliant. Solving a murder from an illegal casino, we met some shady characters, and tried our luck at gambling and golf. We also marvelled at the level of organisation involved from ringing phoneboxes to well placed signs. It was difficult just as a two, particularly as they had teams of up to 8 in one case!

Poppa Plock’s Wonky Workshop

Poppa Plock Summer London

A Handmade Mysteries special this is one for the daredevils around you. OK, so it’s not as scary as London Dungeons, but it is creepy. Trying to work for the bad guys, or the good guys, and follow the cryptic clues and activities. It was great fun as a four, even though we failed it. We would 100% go back and do others, or even try this one again! You can look at availability and booking here. Inside and super fun, perfect for making the most of your autumn in London.

Food and Drink

Courtyard

Beautiful AND tasty, what more could you want. The Courtyard in Fulham team up with different alcohol brands each season, to bring you some amazing cocktails and brilliantly themed brunches. Summers was the delicious Mexican brunch; where you can have the most incredible tasting Mexican inspired food and beautiful cocktails to match. It’s West London’s worst kept secret and most beautiful pub. Even if the weather takes a turn, their garden is heated and the pub is amazing to sit in. Squeg and bonez

Oh my goodness me, vegan to the core. This new venture in Hackney was not only cute and pretty but delicious too! We went to Squeg and Bonez for dinner, and were overcome by how incredibly well thought out the sharing dishes were. From pickled mushroom dumblings, hot and cold noodles and crispy kale, right through to the miso sticky toffee pudding, it was an absolute treat. The playlist was excellent, the service was fantastic and the organic wine to die for! They’re not open every day so check before you go https://www.squegandbonez.co.uk/

Exhibitions

Tate – Haring

This one isn’t in London for once, and it’s definitely worth a visit, whether you’re local or from London. We did a whole weekend in Liverpool (post coming soon) and we loved every second of it. The highlight was this exhibition of Kieth Haring’s work at the Tate Liverpool. So although it’s not London, it;s worth a trip this autumn!

Open House London

It’s our favourite weekend of the year, but the perfect thing to do for the start of Autumn in London: Open House weekend. 21 and 22 September this year; It’s the weekend that many buildings across Greater London open their doors to the public to snoop around in and learn. This is what we got up to at Open House Weekend last year and you can join us this year over on our instagram page.

It’s a Drag Brunch

If you’re looking for something a little less cultural but way up there on the fun scale, then It’s a Drag brunch is the thing for you. We went to their September date and it was the most fun we’d had in an afternoon in ages. Bottomless mimosas, filling food and brilliant banter. Perfect Saturday entertainment. Hosted by Mary Mac and with other amazing queens like Herr, Cheryl Hole and Crystal Lubrikunt it’s the most fabulous way to sashay into your weekend. Keep your eye on their social media pages to ensure their next date (and last for the year) makes it into your plans for this Autumn in London.

Explore London and Staycations

We LOVE exploring London. With a combined residency in Greater London between us of over 40 years, we still haven’t even scratched the surface. That’s what this blog is all about – finding the best things to do and best days to have. Keep an eye on fourthousandweeks.com for more things to do for the rest of your Summer in London.

If you’re looking to escape London without facing the uncertainty of Brexit travel, we also love a staycation. We’ve done a bunch of them this year, from Margate to Liverpool; Whitstable to the New Forest; Suffolk to London. Check out our staycation posts for more inspiration!
