Here we are, back again and fresh from landing in London after a couple of unreal weeks in Sri Lanka. Of course, what better way to get an insight into our lives than 10 minutes of weekly Q&A with us in the form of the second ever double double-double!
Two things you’ve done this week?
JK: Well, aside from being in Sri Lanka, nothing. But IN Sri Lanka we ate a lot of amazing local food, visited 4 beaches and saw so much different wildlife!
THB: Explored as much of we could of the island in our time there, with whale watching and having a the train from Kandy to Ella through mountains, jungle, villages, and tea plantations as highlights.
Two things that were great this week?
JK: Learning more about Buddhism through visiting families was fabulous, and the amazing sunrises and sunsets we saw too.
THB: The sheer abundance of wildlife we have seen every single day was incredible, and discovering the Sri Lankan dish called Kottu Roti was a very delicious first! I also want to point out how beautiful it is that everyone in Sri Lanka smiles at each other and says hello to each other, total strangers on the street talking to each other and locals talking to us with huge smiles on their faces. The whole places radiated a warmth and kindness that I have not experienced anywhere else and I already miss that element of the trip tremendously.
Two challenges you faced?
JK: ‘Switching off’ is a myth, and I think I learnt that you have to do it in your own way. I also worried about the backlog of work I would be coming home to.
THB: I think we all struggled with the heat somewhat, it regularly hot temperatures above 35°c! It was the first time I have actually backpacked and stayed in hostels every night whilst travelling, so getting to grips with living out of a single backpack whilst being in a different place each day was a new challenge.
Two things to add to your to-do list next week?
JK: See Ella as she’s over from New York this week, and get loads of work done ready for research starting next week! THB: Finalise details for the next Slowlines single release and slightly belatedly celebrate our engagement by having some drinks with friends.
